The Inner galaxy: Ohia lehua

Plumeria

Beneath the Starry Sky

SOLD OUT — Thank you very much for giving this piece a new home.

Beneath the starry sky,
the wind was gently blowing.

The universe,
nature,
and humanity—

their beautiful union.

I spent twelve years in Hawaii,
from my twenties into my thirties.

Near Kīlauea Volcano,
I danced the ancient form of hula, Hula Kahiko,
to return to the forest the plants
that had been lent to us by the gods.

Under a sky filled with countless stars,
feeling the earth beneath my feet,
feeling the wind,
and dancing together with the plants,

I felt myself becoming a part of nature,
as though I were becoming one
with the universe.

The feeling I experienced at that moment
has remained with me to this day.

What Hawaii taught me was
to cherish the heart,
to accept our differences,
to continue to respect one another,
and above all,
No one left behind — no one is left behind.

In the “Aloha” I experienced in Hawaii,
I felt a spirit of connection—
between people,
and between people and nature—
a spirit of caring for and respecting one another.

The spirit of Aloha that I received in Hawaii,
and the memory of that night
when I felt as though I were merging with the universe—

those memories became this work of Plumeria.

This piece, too, has found its new home.

I hope that, in its new place,
this flower will continue to bloom quietly,
and that it will bring
a gentle breeze
to someone’s heart.
